Structure of Matter

Abstract

This document is primarily intended for first-year engineering students in preparatory classes for higher education institutions in science and technology. It covers the Chemistry 01 program (Structure of Matter). It may also be useful for undergraduate students in chemistry and biology, as well as medical students, as there are minor differences between the curricula of these fields. This document provides systematically and thoroughly solved exercises, designed to help students overcome their difficulties. It includes seven essential chapters, namely : Fundamental concepts; The particles of the atom; Light , the spectrum of the hydrogen atom, and Bohr’s theory; Atomic model based on quantum mechanics (wave mechanics); Periodic classification of element; Electronic structure of the molecule (Chemical bond) and finally the last chapter VII, is dedicated to corrected exercises. We hope that this manual will achieve its objectives, and we encourage the reader to share their critiques and comments. We thank them in advance.
